Search Missouri State Correctional Center Releases

To find someone released from Missouri state correctional centers after a Madison County case, search by person rather than assuming a prison location from the conviction county. No MODOC prison was verified inside Madison County. State imprisonment occurs at a correctional center assigned elsewhere in Missouri, and prison release can lead to parole or conditional release while MODOC authority continues. Active supervision and full discharge use different official data routes. The interactive offender search covers current supervision, while historical Sunshine data and a records request address people whose MODOC supervision has ended.

Missouri Prison Release Paths

A Madison County judgment can commit a person to MODOC even though no state prison sits in Madison County. The department assigns the correctional center. Nearby Farmington and Potosi institutions must not be labeled Madison County facilities merely because they serve people from the area. Search for the individual and confirm the assigned place instead of guessing from geography.

Leaving a Missouri prison can begin parole or conditional release. The person has left the institution but remains under MODOC community supervision. Maximum release or a later discharge can end a different stage of authority. A transfer to another institution, federal agency, or immigration custody is not a return to the community. The institutional movement or release record should identify the actual date and mechanism.

State record statusMeaning
Institutional assignmentThe person remains in a MODOC correctional center
Field supervisionThe person may be on probation, parole, or conditional release in the community
Completed Flag in nightly dataA sentence row is marked complete, but other rows may remain
Final discharge confirmationMODOC verifies that the applicable supervision authority ended

Search Missouri Prison Releases

MODOC provides two official tools with different scopes. The interactive Offender Search is for people currently supervised by the department and expressly says it does not provide information on discharged offenders. It can remain useful after a prison release when parole or conditional release is active. A no-result is not enough to declare final discharge.

  1. Enter first and last name in the interactive search, consider known aliases, and complete the CAPTCHA.
  2. Compare DOC number, date of birth, cause number, offense county, and sentence facts across candidates.
  3. Read assigned place and status carefully. A field assignment can indicate community supervision rather than institutional custody.
  4. If the person is absent and discharge may have occurred, use the nightly Sunshine database for current and prior MODOC records.
  5. Contact the supervising office or request the institutional release and discharge record when exact dates and mechanisms matter.

A search result should be matched to the Madison County case, not just to a familiar name. Compare the DOC ID, date of birth, cause number, sentence county, offense county, charge description, sentence date, and assigned place. The assigned place can be a prison or a field office. A field assignment supports the possibility of parole or conditional release, but it does not identify the exact institutional departure time or prove final discharge.

If the interactive result disappears, do not turn the absence into a discharge claim. The search expressly omits discharged offenders, and spelling, aliases, record restrictions, or a changed status can also affect retrieval. Search the nightly file across all matching rows. Then ask P&P or the MODOC records custodian whether supervision remains active, when institutional custody ended, and whether a final discharge record exists.

The Madison County released-inmate search helps distinguish an earlier county jail transfer from the later state-prison release. The sheriff record proves when Madison County custody ended. MODOC proves what happened after the person entered the state system.

Missouri Prison Release Records

MODOC does not provide one Madison County prison records desk because state custody is statewide. Use the assigned institution or supervising office for a current operational question. Use the department's Sunshine custodian for a formal offender, movement, release, or discharge record.

Ask for the actual institutional release date, release mechanism, assigned supervision, supervision start and end dates, final discharge date, and records explaining any changes to published minimum or maximum dates.

MODOC Active and Discharged Records

The interactive search and the nightly file should not be conflated. Interactive results concern active MODOC supervision. The Sunshine download covers people who are or have been supervised, includes data as early as 1974, and updates nightly. MODOC warns that the data may not be complete or fully accurate and that some information can be self-reported or unverified.

One person can appear on multiple rows because charges and sentences are recorded separately. Search all matching rows. A Completed Flag on one sentence is not proof that every sentence and term of supervision has ended. Match the DOC ID, name, birth information, cause number, county, offense, and sentence date rather than using the name alone.

Official fieldHow to interpret it
Completed FlagCompletion marker for a row, not a universal person-level discharge certificate
Sentence-I Minimum Release DateOfficial minimum or conditional-release field, not proof of actual door release
Sentence Maximum Release DateFull institutional sentence endpoint field, subject to the record and law
Assigned PlaceInstitutional or field assignment that helps separate custody from supervision

The nightly file contains more than the three fields shown in the table. Its official layout includes assigned place, sentence and offense counties, charge description, sentence length, probation date, probation type, and probation term. Those fields help reconcile a Madison County judgment with later state custody. They still do not create a single universal “actual release reason” field. A movement record or focused records response is needed when the exact mechanism was parole, conditional release, transfer, maximum release, or final discharge.

Minimum and maximum dates must also be read at the sentence-row level. The minimum field generally points to conditional release, which is supervised time in the community. The maximum field is the full institutional sentence endpoint for that row. Board action, consecutive terms, statutory minimums, institutional conduct, program needs, detainers, or corrected sentence data can change the operational outcome. Neither field proves that the prison door opened on the displayed date.

For a purpose-specific request, ask for the actual institutional release date, the release mechanism, the field office assigned afterward, supervision start and end dates, and the final discharge date. Include every known cause number. If the response lists a transfer, request the receiving agency and confirm there. This sequence distinguishes release from a Missouri prison, release from all MODOC authority, and transfer into another custody system.

No single universally plain “actual release event and reason” field was identified in the nightly layout. When the date or mechanism is disputed, request the movement or release certificate and confirm through P&P.

Missouri Prison Release Dates

The minimum date is not an unconditional promise. Missouri's sentence structure, jail-time credit, discretionary good time, statutory minimums, Board action, consecutive sentences, program requirements, detainers, institutional conduct, new cases, and data correction can affect the operational outcome. An actual past movement date is stronger proof than a forecast field.

Section 558.019 includes an 85-percent minimum for the statutory dangerous-felony category. It does not mean every Missouri inmate serves 85 percent. The section also contains other listed-offense and prior-commitment rules. Offense date and the applicable statutory version matter. Section 558.041 permits discretionary good time under MODOC policy, but it is not a fixed amount promised to every person.

Earned Compliance Credit is different. It applies to eligible community supervision after release and can shorten the route to final discharge. It does not move the prison minimum-release date and does not accrue while the person is in custody or absconding. Confirm any specific computation through the institution, Board, or supervising officer.

Note: Treat a minimum release field as a planning marker until MODOC confirms the actual release event and supervision status.

Missouri Prison Detainers and Transfers

A detainer or hold can change where someone goes when MODOC custody would otherwise end. ICE may request notice and up to 48 additional hours so DHS can assume custody. No Madison-specific ICE contract was found, and no Missouri prison release should be described as a Madison County ICE arrangement without a specific record.

If the MODOC release record names ICE, confirm the transfer with the ICE locator or DRIL. A detainer request alone does not show that ICE arrived. If the record names USMS, use the federal court docket, BOP if a later sentence led to BOP custody, and USMS FOIA because no public USMS historical release locator exists.

A state-to-federal transfer ends one custody placement and begins another. It does not prove community release or final discharge from every authority. Ask MODOC for destination, transfer date, and release mechanism, then confirm with the receiving agency.

Madison County Versus MODOC Release

A Madison County Jail release record and a MODOC prison release record document different events. When the jail transfers a sentenced person to MODOC, county custody ends but state imprisonment begins. The county court judgment supports the commitment, yet the assigned prison and later state release are controlled by MODOC.

After a prison release, District 12 can be the relevant supervision office for Madison County. Its main location is in Farmington, and its official guide identifies a Madison alternate reporting site at the sheriff's department. Reporting there does not mean the person has returned to jail custody. Verify whether the status is parole, conditional release, probation, or final discharge.

No MODOC prison is physically in Madison County. Search by name and DOC ID across the statewide system. Geography alone is not proof of assignment, release, or supervision.
